About Eddie
I remember sitting at Eddie’s graduation on a beautiful Wednesday evening surrounded by my family and members of the Henderson Community that have been a part of our lives since Eddie was just a small boy. The night was an emotional one, our familiar cocoon of Henderson, Peirce, and East Bradford was coming to a close. I was struggling to find Eddie in the crowd of maroon and white, but I knew wherever he was he was happy and safe. Those were terms I used quite often in describing Eddie’s time at these schools and the West Chester Community. Eventually, the salutatorian, Courtney Deacon, took her spot and of course I recognized the name, knew her face, and knew she was yet another kind soul.
Although I did not personally meet every person that Eddie knew or who had been a part of his life, Eddie often told stories about his experiences at school, so I came to know many people and the kindness that each and every one of them showed to Eddie. I can’t recall Courtney’s exact words or how she started her speech, but I was immediately in tune to her and her touching words. I felt as though she was specifically talking about Eddie, I thought she was speaking directly to me. Courtney went on to describe the community of Henderson exactly like I viewed it, exactly what I experienced being a part of it. The word she used to describe the community of Henderson was “Ubuntu”.

Specifically, Ubuntu can be translated to “I am who I am because of who we all are”. Yup, that simple word Ubuntu describes Eddie. Eddie is who he is because of who we all are, Eddie is who he is because of all of the people that have touched his life, touched our lives, through the years. Eddie is who he is specifically because of the concept of the simple word “Ubuntu” that carries so much meaning, and the kindness that was showed to him throughout the years that shaped who he still is today. Well, now, that still applies and well, now, Eddie is still a part of the West Chester Community, still loves his town, and has continued to make connections and now, wants to give back to his community that has given him so so much. So, come find out more about Eddie because Eddie knows West Chester.

How We Got Here
Eddie Knows West Chester was an idea that we tossed around for some time. Friends and family had suggested on many occasions that Eddie should start a blog because he is so knowledgeable on so many topics, especially West Chester. We thought it would be a great idea for him to share his wealth of knowledge and at the same time interact with his community. Eddie was born and raised in West Chester along with his two younger brothers, Thomas and Casey. When Eddie was just a little guy, we came to realize very quickly what a great community West Chester really is. We witnessed firsthand what the power of community and support can do!! That support continues to this day!!

Well, Eddie became a “facebooker’ and has joined many West Chester Community Groups to stay connected to his town! On these Facebook groups, Eddie started connecting people to businesses. Someone in a group would ask if anyone knew of a baker, no doubt Eddie knew a baker! For example, he would answer with Amy’s Sweet Bake Shop of course. He would hear back from Amy, thanking him for the connection. Eddie would do this quite often, like a lot…. and it was something he looked forward to doing when checking in on the groups. That pretty much was the initial concept of EKWC… making connections in the community and at the same time promoting WC businesses, his friends, his town. Instagram seems to be the social media hot spot right now, so we started there!! So come check out EKWC’s journey through West Chester and get to know Eddie and your local businesses because of course, EDDIE KNOWS WEST CHESTER!

Well, talk about a Hidden Gem!!! EKWC ventured to Granite Alley on the west side of town to meet with Riley, the GM of the latest Artillery Brewing Company Spot!! Nestled in the back alley just beyond the Master’s Baker, the ABC is the perfect spot to enjoy local brews along with a great selection of cocktails made with the freshest and local ingredients!! All their 12 draft beers are brewed right in house!! 7 of those are rotated to try out something new with each visit!! Of course, there are plenty of selections of mocktails to offer as well!! ABC is excited to start a summer re-launch and offer $10.99 combos… grab a pint and pretzel or other selections... best part a Branded Artillery Glass!! The name and symbol were easily decided by the owner Mike. Mike is a soccer fan as you will find out with their large-scale TVs available where he was drawn to the symbol of the cannon along with The Arsenol Football Club. Combining that with the local historic ties to the Brandywine Valley, the Artillery brand came to life!! Their first local brewery was located near the Battle of Brandywine in Thornbury before moving locations and opening the ABC in the borough!! Just one of their specialty drinks, The Paoli Pike Paloma is made with freshly squeezed grapefruit, Tequilla, fresh lime juice and topped with grapefruit soda!! Check out all the choices!! The menu offers bar food from wings to pretzels and inhouse made fresh bruschetta to name a few!! Live music can be heard every Saturday!! Veterans roll call special every 3rd Thursday with $5 pints!! Just a small way to say thank you for ABC!! So, venture out to be greeted by their friendly staff, parking is available right in the lot in the alley, and start a game of cornhole in their outdoor dining space under the lights!! EKWC will see you there! Stop by and don’t forget to let them know that #eddiesentme. #shopsmall #shoplocal #supportsmallbusinesseswc #wcshopsmall #eatlocal #wceatlocal #EKWC #westchesterpa ... West Chester really does have it all!! EKWC ventured to meet with Deborah Ann Mack, owner of Deborah Ann Mack Fashions located right on Church Street in the heart of WC. Deborah is a fashion designer and custom makes luxury outerwear and clothing for women. It’s a simple process with a personal touch and the finished product is designed just for you and tailored just for you! Deborah has gorgeous selections of garments and fabrics that you choose with her guidance and then she custom fashions the unique designs to fit your body and your style!! Everything is custom designed!! Deborah always had a love for design and after working for 20 years and raising her family she dove straight in! She was invited to New York Fashion week for her first photoshoot, from that The Phila Inquirer reached out for a full page spread and then things just took off!! DC fashion week followed, then Harper’s Bazaar London, and things have never slowed down. Deborah is quite the entrepreneur, prior to her custom designer shop, she owned an organic drycleaning business in the area and that gave her the push she needed to return to school and begin her venture. She attended the grad program at Drexel U and Moores College of Art and Design along with the Parson’s school of Fashion… all WHILE raising her family!! She wanted to take it all in and learn all she could about the fashion world. By 2017, Deborah put together 40 looks for New York Fashion Week! There was no stopping her through Covid, she decided custom made was her clear passion and she knew she wanted to build her designs around her clients! Her pieces are uniquely designed just for you in gorgeous fabrics where she sets out to find the perfect fit for you!! Deborah loves handling your bridal wear… wedding gowns, mother of the bride, remakes along with speciality pieces and of course outerwear!! Grand Reopening in August!!!! Follow or sign up @damfashions to get the notice!!! Stop by her shop to see her designs on display and have a chat!! Don’t forget to tell her #eddiesentme. #shopsmall #shoplocal #supportsmallbusinesseswc #wcshopsmall #eatlocal #wceatlocal #EKWC #westchesterpa ... See MoreSee Less
