Eddie Knows West Chester

About Eddie

I remember sitting at Eddie’s graduation on a beautiful Wednesday evening surrounded by my family and members of the Henderson Community that have been a part of our lives since Eddie was just a small boy.  The night was an emotional one, our familiar cocoon of Henderson, Peirce, and East Bradford was coming to a close.  I was struggling to find Eddie in the crowd of maroon and white, but I knew wherever he was he was happy and safe.  Those were terms I used quite often in describing Eddie’s time at these schools and the West Chester Community.  Eventually, the salutatorian, Courtney Deacon, took her spot and of course I recognized the name, knew her face, and knew she was yet another kind soul.

Although I did not personally meet every person that Eddie knew or who had been a part of his life, Eddie often told stories about his experiences at school, so I came to know many people and the kindness that each and every one of them showed to Eddie.  I can’t recall Courtney’s exact words or how she started her speech, but I was immediately in tune to her and her touching words.  I felt as though she was specifically talking about Eddie, I thought she was speaking directly to me.  Courtney went on to describe the community of Henderson exactly like I viewed it, exactly what I experienced being a part of it.  The word she used to describe the community of Henderson was “Ubuntu”.

Specifically, Ubuntu can be translated to “I am who I am because of who we all are”.  Yup, that simple word Ubuntu describes Eddie.  Eddie is who he is because of who we all are, Eddie is who he is because of all of the people that have touched his life, touched our lives, through the years.  Eddie is who he is specifically because of the concept of the simple word “Ubuntu” that carries so much meaning, and the kindness that was showed to him throughout the years that shaped who he still is today.  Well, now, that still applies and well, now, Eddie is still a part of the West Chester Community, still loves his town, and has continued to make connections and now, wants to give back to his community that has given him so so much.  So, come find out more about Eddie because Eddie knows West Chester.

How We Got Here

Eddie Knows West Chester was an idea that we tossed around for some time. Friends and family had suggested on many occasions that Eddie should start a blog because he is so knowledgeable on so many topics, especially West Chester. We thought it would be a great idea for him to share his wealth of knowledge and at the same time interact with his community. Eddie was born and raised in West Chester along with his two younger brothers, Thomas and Casey. When Eddie was just a little guy, we came to realize very quickly what a great community West Chester really is. We witnessed firsthand what the power of community and support can do!! That support continues to this day!!

Well, Eddie became a “facebooker’ and has joined many West Chester Community Groups to stay connected to his town! On these Facebook groups, Eddie started connecting people to businesses. Someone in a group would ask if anyone knew of a baker, no doubt Eddie knew a baker! For example, he would answer with Amy’s Sweet Bake Shop of course. He would hear back from Amy, thanking him for the connection. Eddie would do this quite often, like a lot…. and it was something he looked forward to doing when checking in on the groups. That pretty much was the initial concept of EKWC… making connections in the community and at the same time promoting WC businesses, his friends, his town. Instagram seems to be the social media hot spot right now, so we started there!! So come check out EKWC’s journey through West Chester and get to know Eddie and your local businesses because of course, EDDIE KNOWS WEST CHESTER!

EKWC recently met with Kellie, owner of our local Alsies, a gourmet ice cream truck coming your way!!! This isn’t your average ice cream truck… it’s a nostalgic favorite, reimagined for today’s tech savvy community… bringing together the charm of the past with modern convenience!! Kellie and her husband have partnered with the founders, that are based in North Carolina, to bring this sweet concept to West Chester and surrounding communities!!
After living and working in Germany as an educator in a special education program, the pair decided to return to their roots in the area and raise their three boys. After working part time in various capacities, Kellie had her children in mind when deciding to bring the concept of a gourmet ice cream truck to her hometown. Kellie and Alsies have a simple mission: to spread happiness and create lasting memories for all of those people that they’re lucky enough to serve.
What truly sets Alsie’s apart?? The APP!!! Simply download the app and track the ice cream truck in real time! Incredible!!! Within minutes, you will hear the sweet classic ice cream truck music heading your way!! How fun is that!!
In addition to cruising the neighborhood, the truck is available for private events, parties, and community gatherings. Kellie has already been busy lining up several private and local events. The truck was spotted at a recent Easter Egg Hunt and will be on its way to the Exton Spring Fair.
Of course, Kellie makes giving back a priority and offers fundraising opportunities for your causes!! She recently completed a fun giveaway on Facebook where the Pennwood Elementary School won a free ice cream trip for their entire school! The app is free, easy to use and your new favorite way to treat the family.
Be sure to join Kellie and her team for The Grand Opening this Saturday, April 18 at the East Goshen Park from 11:30 to 1:30 with plenty of giveaways!! Give Alsie’s of West Chester a follow on Instagram and download the app!!

Eddie Knows West Chester

Friends of EKWC recently headed north to meet with Frank, the owner of Kindred Society, located in Main Street at Exton. Thanks to Jules, the salon’s manager, for making the connection. EKWC is truly grateful for the connection. Frank and his team have proudly occupied the space since 2007, rebranding in 2022 to officially become Kindred Society. The name reflects Franks’ vision: “Kindred”, meaning connected or related, and “Society”, representing the community. Together, the name embodies a welcoming environment where guests immediately feel like part of the family. Frank’s journey in the beauty industry began in 1999 when he started as a stylist. Over the years, he knew he wanted to build something of his own. That dream became a reality when he partnered with his former employer, eventually transitioning into sole proprietorship in 2022. Once he took full ownership, renovations began, elevating the space into the modern sanctuary it is today. With soaring ceilings, beautifully updated flooring, and thoughtfully curated décor with a contemporary twist, Kindred Society offers a warm yet luxurious atmosphere that instantly puts clients at ease. The salon provides curated, highly personalized experiences delivered by a team of talented experts. Services include full hair care and natural look coloring, make-up artistry and waxing. Each stylist is dedicated to creating a look tailored perfectly to you. KS is devoted to shaping the lives of future stylists and is a feeder pipeline to the local schools. Kindred Society is more than a salon; it is a community! Come experience the vibe for yourself and become a part of their family!!
