Eddie Knows West Chester

About Eddie

I remember sitting at Eddie’s graduation on a beautiful Wednesday evening surrounded by my family and members of the Henderson Community that have been a part of our lives since Eddie was just a small boy.  The night was an emotional one, our familiar cocoon of Henderson, Peirce, and East Bradford was coming to a close.  I was struggling to find Eddie in the crowd of maroon and white, but I knew wherever he was he was happy and safe.  Those were terms I used quite often in describing Eddie’s time at these schools and the West Chester Community.  Eventually, the salutatorian, Courtney Deacon, took her spot and of course I recognized the name, knew her face, and knew she was yet another kind soul.

Although I did not personally meet every person that Eddie knew or who had been a part of his life, Eddie often told stories about his experiences at school, so I came to know many people and the kindness that each and every one of them showed to Eddie.  I can’t recall Courtney’s exact words or how she started her speech, but I was immediately in tune to her and her touching words.  I felt as though she was specifically talking about Eddie, I thought she was speaking directly to me.  Courtney went on to describe the community of Henderson exactly like I viewed it, exactly what I experienced being a part of it.  The word she used to describe the community of Henderson was “Ubuntu”.

Specifically, Ubuntu can be translated to “I am who I am because of who we all are”.  Yup, that simple word Ubuntu describes Eddie.  Eddie is who he is because of who we all are, Eddie is who he is because of all of the people that have touched his life, touched our lives, through the years.  Eddie is who he is specifically because of the concept of the simple word “Ubuntu” that carries so much meaning, and the kindness that was showed to him throughout the years that shaped who he still is today.  Well, now, that still applies and well, now, Eddie is still a part of the West Chester Community, still loves his town, and has continued to make connections and now, wants to give back to his community that has given him so so much.  So, come find out more about Eddie because Eddie knows West Chester.

How We Got Here

Eddie Knows West Chester was an idea that we tossed around for some time. Friends and family had suggested on many occasions that Eddie should start a blog because he is so knowledgeable on so many topics, especially West Chester. We thought it would be a great idea for him to share his wealth of knowledge and at the same time interact with his community. Eddie was born and raised in West Chester along with his two younger brothers, Thomas and Casey. When Eddie was just a little guy, we came to realize very quickly what a great community West Chester really is. We witnessed firsthand what the power of community and support can do!! That support continues to this day!!

Well, Eddie became a “facebooker’ and has joined many West Chester Community Groups to stay connected to his town! On these Facebook groups, Eddie started connecting people to businesses. Someone in a group would ask if anyone knew of a baker, no doubt Eddie knew a baker! For example, he would answer with Amy’s Sweet Bake Shop of course. He would hear back from Amy, thanking him for the connection. Eddie would do this quite often, like a lot…. and it was something he looked forward to doing when checking in on the groups. That pretty much was the initial concept of EKWC… making connections in the community and at the same time promoting WC businesses, his friends, his town. Instagram seems to be the social media hot spot right now, so we started there!! So come check out EKWC’s journey through West Chester and get to know Eddie and your local businesses because of course, EDDIE KNOWS WEST CHESTER!

Eddie Knows West Chester

EKWC was excited to head to the east part of the borough to meet with Kevin, the owner, chef, and man with many hats, of Momo and Sushi Café located right past Matlack on Market. Kevin was born and raised in Nepal so he brings with him his authentic recipes and experience. He has worked in the food industry for years in many different capacities. He went to school for business in NY and eventually found his way to West Chester where he followed his passion for Asian cuisine. Just one of Kevin’s many experiences in the culinary scene was a Sushi Chef at a popular spot in downtown WC where he brought his background with him. He then gave it his all managing a sushi/burrito place in town and knew he had the work ethics and the experience to bring a unique setting and menu to WC. We were lucky to meet his mom and his sister who are right by his side to bring WC authentic traditional Nepalese momos as well as sushi while also offering vegan options. Kevin gave us a taste of Nepal’s finest! The momos are made on sight and are the perfect combination of tender dough and savory fillings served with various dipping sauces!! Delicious!! Kevin and his family team work around the clock to bring WC the savory flavors of traditional Himalayan steamed dumplings filled with fresh cheeses, mashed potatoes, chicken, beef, veggies, just to name a few. They also offer vegan sushi rolls with combinations of avocado, cucumber, and asparagus! Kevin and his family want to bring the beauty and knowledge of Nepal to the coming generations. Their love of nature and positive energy is displayed in their unique dining setting where traditional Nepal prayer flags gracefully fall from above symbolizing peace, compassion, strength and wisdom. Stop by to see for yourself and enjoy the experience! Don’t forget to tell Kevin that #eddiesentme. #shopsmall #shoplocal #supportsmallbusinesseswc #wcshopsmall #eatlocal #wceatlocal #EKWC #westchesterpa ... See MoreSee Less

WOW! Side Bar & Restaurant seems to have been in WC forever so it was such a pleasure to meet with Justin and learn about the history and get a tour of the historical building in an empty house! Photographs grace the walls of the past lives of the building and the transformations that have taken place! Next time you are in.. take a look!! Justin, his wife Kara & their partners, Adam & Kelly go way back in the WC scene together! First, a little background on Justin.. he has been around the restaurant business since he was just a little guy, his first job was dishwashing. He held practically every position in the business since that time. His family members worked at St. Anthony’s Lodge in Dtown and that is where his restauranteur career began! He attended WCU, where he met his partner that attended UVM & his business partner, Adam. also a WCU Grad. They all worked in town at the Bar and Restaurant and Jitters. They talked of the future and knew they wanted to start a venture together. Eventually, they opened up The SB and R. The name was an easy decision…they all could be found working the sidebar night after night in their college/post college days… so they carried it over! What a great story!! They started SB in 2008, opened the doors in 2009 & continue to serve WC all these years later. They made it through the challenges of covid & since then have made outdoor dining the place to be! The chef “Big Dave”has been with them since the beginning & continues to stay current with his menu.  Besides serving lunch & dinner, SB offers a slew of other amenities like Saturday & Sunday Brunch & private parties of any kind! The upstairs is the perfect setting looking over the streets of WC for a private gathering or party. They will cater to your needs & offer several packages! The chef stays local & fresh & changes seasonally. Soups/dressings are made from scratch! Check out the nightly events like live music, trivia night, & dance the night away with a DJ on Fri and Sat nights!!!! It’s always happening at SB… stop by and don’t forget to tell them that #eddiesentme. #shopsmall #shoplocal #supportsmallbusinesseswc #wcshopsmall #eatlocal #wceatlocal #EKWC #westchesterpa ...
