About Eddie
I remember sitting at Eddie’s graduation on a beautiful Wednesday evening surrounded by my family and members of the Henderson Community that have been a part of our lives since Eddie was just a small boy. The night was an emotional one, our familiar cocoon of Henderson, Peirce, and East Bradford was coming to a close. I was struggling to find Eddie in the crowd of maroon and white, but I knew wherever he was he was happy and safe. Those were terms I used quite often in describing Eddie’s time at these schools and the West Chester Community. Eventually, the salutatorian, Courtney Deacon, took her spot and of course I recognized the name, knew her face, and knew she was yet another kind soul.
Although I did not personally meet every person that Eddie knew or who had been a part of his life, Eddie often told stories about his experiences at school, so I came to know many people and the kindness that each and every one of them showed to Eddie. I can’t recall Courtney’s exact words or how she started her speech, but I was immediately in tune to her and her touching words. I felt as though she was specifically talking about Eddie, I thought she was speaking directly to me. Courtney went on to describe the community of Henderson exactly like I viewed it, exactly what I experienced being a part of it. The word she used to describe the community of Henderson was “Ubuntu”.

Specifically, Ubuntu can be translated to “I am who I am because of who we all are”. Yup, that simple word Ubuntu describes Eddie. Eddie is who he is because of who we all are, Eddie is who he is because of all of the people that have touched his life, touched our lives, through the years. Eddie is who he is specifically because of the concept of the simple word “Ubuntu” that carries so much meaning, and the kindness that was showed to him throughout the years that shaped who he still is today. Well, now, that still applies and well, now, Eddie is still a part of the West Chester Community, still loves his town, and has continued to make connections and now, wants to give back to his community that has given him so so much. So, come find out more about Eddie because Eddie knows West Chester.

How We Got Here
Eddie Knows West Chester was an idea that we tossed around for some time. Friends and family had suggested on many occasions that Eddie should start a blog because he is so knowledgeable on so many topics, especially West Chester. We thought it would be a great idea for him to share his wealth of knowledge and at the same time interact with his community. Eddie was born and raised in West Chester along with his two younger brothers, Thomas and Casey. When Eddie was just a little guy, we came to realize very quickly what a great community West Chester really is. We witnessed firsthand what the power of community and support can do!! That support continues to this day!!

Well, Eddie became a “facebooker’ and has joined many West Chester Community Groups to stay connected to his town! On these Facebook groups, Eddie started connecting people to businesses. Someone in a group would ask if anyone knew of a baker, no doubt Eddie knew a baker! For example, he would answer with Amy’s Sweet Bake Shop of course. He would hear back from Amy, thanking him for the connection. Eddie would do this quite often, like a lot…. and it was something he looked forward to doing when checking in on the groups. That pretty much was the initial concept of EKWC… making connections in the community and at the same time promoting WC businesses, his friends, his town. Instagram seems to be the social media hot spot right now, so we started there!! So come check out EKWC’s journey through West Chester and get to know Eddie and your local businesses because of course, EDDIE KNOWS WEST CHESTER!

Finally!!! We are so glad we connected with Alysha, owner of LaChic Boutique! Alysha was born and raised in WC of course and is raising her daughter here as well. Alysha grew up surrounded by retail, her father a true retail guru! Her parents owned a card/gift shop. She was always a part of the store, however, she decided to become a teacher, she majored in special ed & minored in… what else but fashion… always a love for both. While a full time teacher, the shop unfortunately lost their manager & they were considering closing down. After some thought, Alysha decided to change the store to all boutique and dive into retail full time. The shop was up in Chester Springs, but her dream was to find a space on the main strip in WC and that she did. LaChic Boutique has the perfect location in the middle of the hustling and bustling of downtown WC located on Gay St. LaChic…. Alysha describes the meaning as “fancy”… the perfect word for the perfect boutique. Their brand identity is symbolized with a butterfly to signify “a new beginning”. The shop is filled with the latest in trends at affordable prices. They are proud to offer good quality finds that are cute, fun, and trendy, and NOT just for college students! So many choices for a wide range of ages and styles!! Shopping at LCB won’t break your bank but will bring you the style you are looking for! The perfect spot for your mother/daughter shopping… shop Wed-Sunday! You will always find LCB to be a part of everything WC.. everything downtown!! They are proud participants in local fundraising for Maddie’s Bags, fashion shows, sorority events, both in-store events and your events. Keeping it local… they also like to showcase local artisans.. soaps, bracelets, cups, and of course they are the ONLY spot to sell the famous West Chester Bar Tour Sweatshirts by Rush Order Tees. They also sell upcycled merchandise… taking authentic parts of brands like Chanel & creating unique designs that are easy on your pockets!! Stop in to meet their team Mascot, Dior, the tea cup pup!! And don’t forget to tell them that #eddiesentme. #shopsmall #shoplocal #supportsmallbusinesseswc #wcshopsmall #EKWC #westchesterpa ... See MoreSee Less

EKWC making the rounds…. We met with Sami from Rush Order Tees while at LaChicque boutique where her line is proudly displayed!! Sami sells her unique own line of WC apparel exclusively at LaChicque Boutique!! The Bar Tour WC design logos feature local town restaurants & bars. Sami even created a line for the “old timers”!! Sami is a WCU grad and while there wanted to find a way to get involved with the organizations on the WCU campus during her time there! After much thought, she decided to go the apparel route & found herself working with South by the Sea (run by ROT). Sami also wanted to come up with something unique that had local roots… she came up with the Bar Tour line which really took off!!! What young local doesn’t know the meaning of “meet me at Barns”!!! After creating her Bar Tour line, she knew she wanted to hit up a spot that gets a lot of traffic to sell her unique line. Enter LaChic Boutique, the perfect partnership!! Sami also has a background in education & special ed, so Alysha (owner of LaChic Boutique) and Sami have a lot in common and make for great partners!! ROT apparel goes way beyond this line as well. ROT is the “go to” apparel line for Sorority, Fraternity, & businesses spread across the area and nation. They go as far as supplying sportswear for Netflix, Marriot, and even Target and McDonald’s!! Sami is the rep for the WCU campus and the surrounding area. Her and her team can help you design a new logo, replicate an old one, and decide what products you would like to distribute with your personalized logo!! ROT does more than Tees, they offer hats (beanies, rain, baseball, +), bags (backpacks, totes, sacks), sportwear (baseball pants, pullovers, quarter zips, long sleeves, +) and on and on. Sami will work with your organization and corporate orders. ROT offers logo and branding services, promotional items and accessories, trade show and event materials, and uniforms and company merch!! Sami also enjoys building relationships with small local businesses and would love to help promote your business!! Don’t forget to tell her that #eddiesentme.
