About Eddie

I remember sitting at Eddie’s graduation on a beautiful Wednesday evening surrounded by my family and members of the Henderson Community that have been a part of our lives since Eddie was just a small boy.  The night was an emotional one, our familiar cocoon of Henderson, Peirce, and East Bradford was coming to a close.  I was struggling to find Eddie in the crowd of maroon and white, but I knew wherever he was he was happy and safe.  Those were terms I used quite often in describing Eddie’s time at these schools and the West Chester Community.  Eventually, the salutatorian, Courtney Deacon, took her spot and of course I recognized the name, knew her face, and knew she was yet another kind soul.

Although I did not personally meet every person that Eddie knew or who had been a part of his life, Eddie often told stories about his experiences at school, so I came to know many people and the kindness that each and every one of them showed to Eddie.  I can’t recall Courtney’s exact words or how she started her speech, but I was immediately in tune to her and her touching words.  I felt as though she was specifically talking about Eddie, I thought she was speaking directly to me.  Courtney went on to describe the community of Henderson exactly like I viewed it, exactly what I experienced being a part of it.  The word she used to describe the community of Henderson was “Ubuntu”.

Specifically, Ubuntu can be translated to “I am who I am because of who we all are”.  Yup, that simple word Ubuntu describes Eddie.  Eddie is who he is because of who we all are, Eddie is who he is because of all of the people that have touched his life, touched our lives, through the years.  Eddie is who he is specifically because of the concept of the simple word “Ubuntu” that carries so much meaning, and the kindness that was showed to him throughout the years that shaped who he still is today.  Well, now, that still applies and well, now, Eddie is still a part of the West Chester Community, still loves his town, and has continued to make connections and now, wants to give back to his community that has given him so so much.  So, come find out more about Eddie because Eddie knows West Chester.

How We Got Here

Eddie Knows West Chester was an idea that we tossed around for some time. Friends and family had suggested on many occasions that Eddie should start a blog because he is so knowledgeable on so many topics, especially West Chester. We thought it would be a great idea for him to share his wealth of knowledge and at the same time interact with his community. Eddie was born and raised in West Chester along with his two younger brothers, Thomas and Casey. When Eddie was just a little guy, we came to realize very quickly what a great community West Chester really is. We witnessed firsthand what the power of community and support can do!! That support continues to this day!!

Well, Eddie became a “facebooker’ and has joined many West Chester Community Groups to stay connected to his town! On these Facebook groups, Eddie started connecting people to businesses. Someone in a group would ask if anyone knew of a baker, no doubt Eddie knew a baker! For example, he would answer with Amy’s Sweet Bake Shop of course. He would hear back from Amy, thanking him for the connection. Eddie would do this quite often, like a lot…. and it was something he looked forward to doing when checking in on the groups. That pretty much was the initial concept of EKWC… making connections in the community and at the same time promoting WC businesses, his friends, his town. Instagram seems to be the social media hot spot right now, so we started there!! So come check out EKWC’s journey through West Chester and get to know Eddie and your local businesses because of course, EDDIE KNOWS WEST CHESTER!

Welcome to West Chester Kevin of Kerkula’s Jewelry!! At Kerkula’s, Kevin custom perfects each piece of jewelry with experience and expertise!!Kerkula’s is located in the Gay Street Commons at 117 W. Gay Street in Suite 104. Kevin is not only the custom jeweler but he also designed and built his workspace. We were just amazed to hear about his journey to West Chester. His parents are from Liberia where they own and operate two gold creeks, so you could say he inherited his talents and gold is in his blood! Liberia stands out proudly in his logo as you can see by the photo to honor his parents. Kerkula’s has been in business in West Chester for about a year and half, Kevin also established himself and his brand in Pittsburgh before finding his way to WC! Kevin has perfected his craft through education and experience and we were amazed to learn the process. He uses all the latest technologies and makes each piece right on site in his well oiled workspace where his masterpieces are created… your masterpieces!! Kevin will design your dream piece and guide you every step of the way… he listens then brings your piece to life. And what a process it is!! Lucky for us, Kevin took the time to show us exactly how each piece is crafted from conception to completion!! He starts by using a 3d sketch and CAD designs. He guides you through the decisions based on your budget and specifics. You get to visualize your piece along with Kevin before the finishing work begins. Kevin completes the casting, the molding, the torching, and with an expert hand sets every single stone himself. All of his equipment is right on site and it was amazing to see the process. Kevin offers hand made pieces that are available to purchase but his specialities are all custom made to your requests!! He creates memory pendants, engagement rings, name plate necklaces just to name a few and will also recreate jewelry pieces as well. Kerkula’s also offers Jewelry repair!! Stop in to say hi or call for an appointment!! Kevin will be sure to make just the perfe#eddiesentme yo#ShopSmallq#shoplocalt#supportsmallbusinesseswc!#wcshopsmall #ekwcl#westchesterpamallbusinesseswc #wcshopsmall #EKWC #westchesterpa ... Well EKWC certainly went for a ride this time..literally!!! We were so excited to meet Robert of the RDS Automotive Group. Robert is the Photographer and Marketer for RDS. He also is the Social Media Coordinator & Event Planner. The RDS covers a lot of ground, and Robert graciously gave us a tour of all it! Riding site to site in high style.. again… literally!! We started out at their main office right here in WC, jumped in a top of the line MacLaren and headed out for our tours!! RDS is the main company that consists of Porsche of The Main Line, McLaren Phila, Maserati of The ML, Lamborghini Phila. & Greenwich, Ferrari Phila. All the dealerships offer “luxury new and pre-owned inventory, superior white glove service, and an extensive parts department” ! At each stop, we were overwhelmed with the welcoming Staff who were happy to share just what their locations had to offer! In one of the photos, you will see what looks like a photo op area… that is exactly what it is.. a photo booth.. for these luxury cars. The green screened room is perfect for taking expert photography of their luxurious inventory. That was just the start! The McLaren pristine showroom is located on WC Pike and showcased just about every color McLaren right out front!! From there, Robert escorted us in what else but a.. Rolls Royce… to our next stop, Porsche of the ML, located in Newtown Square. Last stop… The Lamborghini Showroom in Devon. After being welcomed by the team, Robert lead us through the impressive showroom. A massive tv screen continuously displayed the exquisite cars in motion along with showcasing the events that are held with the car owners. One of the most impressive rooms in the showroom was the customization area… this is where future buyers create their unique cars with all of the options. RDS is growing quickly in and around West Chester, and bringing the worlds most exclusive car brands right to our front door. So if you are in the market for a luxury ride, please reach out to Robert.. he really gives the best tours!!! And don’t forget to tell them #eddiesentme. #shopsmall #shoplocal #supportsmallbusinesseswc #wcshopsmall #EKWC #westchesterpa ... See MoreSee Less
