About Eddie
I remember sitting at Eddie’s graduation on a beautiful Wednesday evening surrounded by my family and members of the Henderson Community that have been a part of our lives since Eddie was just a small boy. The night was an emotional one, our familiar cocoon of Henderson, Peirce, and East Bradford was coming to a close. I was struggling to find Eddie in the crowd of maroon and white, but I knew wherever he was he was happy and safe. Those were terms I used quite often in describing Eddie’s time at these schools and the West Chester Community. Eventually, the salutatorian, Courtney Deacon, took her spot and of course I recognized the name, knew her face, and knew she was yet another kind soul.
Although I did not personally meet every person that Eddie knew or who had been a part of his life, Eddie often told stories about his experiences at school, so I came to know many people and the kindness that each and every one of them showed to Eddie. I can’t recall Courtney’s exact words or how she started her speech, but I was immediately in tune to her and her touching words. I felt as though she was specifically talking about Eddie, I thought she was speaking directly to me. Courtney went on to describe the community of Henderson exactly like I viewed it, exactly what I experienced being a part of it. The word she used to describe the community of Henderson was “Ubuntu”.

Specifically, Ubuntu can be translated to “I am who I am because of who we all are”. Yup, that simple word Ubuntu describes Eddie. Eddie is who he is because of who we all are, Eddie is who he is because of all of the people that have touched his life, touched our lives, through the years. Eddie is who he is specifically because of the concept of the simple word “Ubuntu” that carries so much meaning, and the kindness that was showed to him throughout the years that shaped who he still is today. Well, now, that still applies and well, now, Eddie is still a part of the West Chester Community, still loves his town, and has continued to make connections and now, wants to give back to his community that has given him so so much. How We Got Here
Eddie Knows West Chester was an idea that we tossed around for some time. Friends and family had suggested on many occasions that Eddie should start a blog because he is so knowledgeable on so many topics, especially West Chester. We thought it would be a great idea for him to share his wealth of knowledge and at the same time interact with his community. Eddie was born and raised in West Chester along with his two younger brothers, Thomas and Casey. When Eddie was just a little guy, we came to realize very quickly what a great community West Chester really is. We witnessed firsthand what the power of community and support can do!! That support continues to this day!!

Well, Eddie became a “facebooker’ and has joined many West Chester Community Groups to stay connected to his town! On these Facebook groups, Eddie started connecting people to businesses. Someone in a group would ask if anyone knew of a baker, no doubt Eddie knew a baker! For example, he would answer with Amy’s Sweet Bake Shop of course. He would hear back from Amy, thanking him for the connection. Eddie would do this quite often, like a lot…. and it was something he looked forward to doing when checking in on the groups. That pretty much was the initial concept of EKWC… making connections in the community and at the same time promoting WC businesses, his friends, his town. Instagram seems to be the social media hot spot right now, so we started there!! What We Hope To Do
The mission of EKWC is to make connections for local businesses. EKWC wants to promote local businesses and bring awareness to everything West Chester has to offer from restaurants, health and beauty, services, and of course shopping. EKWC wants to keep it local, shop local, eat local. Come visit West Chester and use EKWC as your tour guide!!

Friends of EKWC took a short ride to see our friends at CupKate’s in Greenville, Delaware and it was worth the trip to hear Kate’s story and treat ourselves to some homemade cupcakes!! Kati opened up her shop in September 2022 and her customer base has grown every year! Creativity and baking has always been a passion of Kati’s, she was always baking cakes for friends and family alongside her mom. Kati knew early on she wanted to one day run her own business. She attended St. Joe’s University where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing and Entrepreneuship so she mastered that side of the business which led directly to her success not only as a baker but as an entrepreneur.
Kati spent some time in the corporate world and continued to have an online presence for her baking along with involving herself in pop up shops at popular spots like Anthropologie and Lily Pulitizer! Getting so involved, Kati continued to build up her following. Marketing herself and her CupKate’s was key to her success even prior to opening up her store! With such a strong, loyal customer base, and success online, Kati decided it was time to give a shop a go and become a fulltime baker!! She already had 6000 followers on Instagram… she already had a presence online…. She already had the business know how!
Well, today she has over 17,000 followers along with a busy shop where she continues an online shop as well. Plenty of sweet treats available for walk-ins, grab and go cupcakes, cookies, seasonal specials, baby cakes, macaroons, and more along with adorable boutique items like stickers, bags, cards to name just a few. Kati enjoys the challenges to create exactly what you are looking for in custom cakes and also has an easy online guide to help you make your decisions. EKWC was excited to catch up with Jim, owner of the Philly Pretzel Factory. EKWC goes way back with Jim to the days of Little League when we would pick up boxes and boxes of freshly baked, warm pretzels. The warm treats would be gone in a split second! The store still continues to serve Little Leagues all over and many other community programs, fundraisers, school events, business events and more, and has been for over 20 years!! Prior to opening his store, Jim had a desire to start his own business, be his own boss, make his own hours. He and his family knew it would be a lot of work but the experience was definitely worth it. And it is a family business… Jim’s kids all work there!!
Jim’s first store was right in town, the perfect location. It was a familiar tradition to watch the chef from the street shaping their pretzels and loading the ovens. PPF decided to branch out and they found the perfect spot located on West Chester Pike between 202 and Five Points next to the Starbucks, an easy drive for sure. The store location has easy parking and the drive-thru makes it the perfect spot to pick up your orders and be on your way. Jim is proud to be a member of the West Chester Community and the PPF Family crew are grateful to all of their customers. Besides the delicious pretzels and yummy specialty items, part of the success of the PPF, is Jim’s commitment to not just the community but to his employees! He believes happy employees make customers happy!! He has a fantastic hardworking staff and they are committed to their craft and to Jim! Jim not only wants to serve WC the best pretzel, he wants the PPF to be the best place to work. The menu at the PPF consists of pretzels..by the box, by the tray, rivet trays, mini dogs, mini cheesesteaks, AND… specialty orders and shapes… Valentines’s Day is coming up so request your heart pretzels!!
