About Eddie

I remember sitting at Eddie’s graduation on a beautiful Wednesday evening surrounded by my family and members of the Henderson Community that have been a part of our lives since Eddie was just a small boy.  The night was an emotional one, our familiar cocoon of Henderson, Peirce, and East Bradford was coming to a close.  I was struggling to find Eddie in the crowd of maroon and white, but I knew wherever he was he was happy and safe.  Those were terms I used quite often in describing Eddie’s time at these schools and the West Chester Community.  Eventually, the salutatorian, Courtney Deacon, took her spot and of course I recognized the name, knew her face, and knew she was yet another kind soul.

Although I did not personally meet every person that Eddie knew or who had been a part of his life, Eddie often told stories about his experiences at school, so I came to know many people and the kindness that each and every one of them showed to Eddie.  I can’t recall Courtney’s exact words or how she started her speech, but I was immediately in tune to her and her touching words.  I felt as though she was specifically talking about Eddie, I thought she was speaking directly to me.  Courtney went on to describe the community of Henderson exactly like I viewed it, exactly what I experienced being a part of it.  The word she used to describe the community of Henderson was “Ubuntu”.

Specifically, Ubuntu can be translated to “I am who I am because of who we all are”.  Yup, that simple word Ubuntu describes Eddie.  Eddie is who he is because of who we all are, Eddie is who he is because of all of the people that have touched his life, touched our lives, through the years.  Eddie is who he is specifically because of the concept of the simple word “Ubuntu” that carries so much meaning, and the kindness that was showed to him throughout the years that shaped who he still is today.  Well, now, that still applies and well, now, Eddie is still a part of the West Chester Community, still loves his town, and has continued to make connections and now, wants to give back to his community that has given him so so much.  So, come find out more about Eddie because Eddie knows West Chester.

How We Got Here

Eddie Knows West Chester was an idea that we tossed around for some time. Friends and family had suggested on many occasions that Eddie should start a blog because he is so knowledgeable on so many topics, especially West Chester. We thought it would be a great idea for him to share his wealth of knowledge and at the same time interact with his community. Eddie was born and raised in West Chester along with his two younger brothers, Thomas and Casey. When Eddie was just a little guy, we came to realize very quickly what a great community West Chester really is. We witnessed firsthand what the power of community and support can do!! That support continues to this day!!

Well, Eddie became a “facebooker’ and has joined many West Chester Community Groups to stay connected to his town! On these Facebook groups, Eddie started connecting people to businesses. Someone in a group would ask if anyone knew of a baker, no doubt Eddie knew a baker! For example, he would answer with Amy’s Sweet Bake Shop of course. He would hear back from Amy, thanking him for the connection. Eddie would do this quite often, like a lot…. and it was something he looked forward to doing when checking in on the groups. That pretty much was the initial concept of EKWC… making connections in the community and at the same time promoting WC businesses, his friends, his town. Instagram seems to be the social media hot spot right now, so we started there!! So come check out EKWC’s journey through West Chester and get to know Eddie and your local businesses because of course, EDDIE KNOWS WEST CHESTER!

What a pleasure it was catching up with Jess from European Wax Center located in the Marketplace at Westtown in West Chester. Jess filled us in on the history of the centers and their specific location along with her and her teams goals. This center opened in October of 2022. Jess is the manager running this location, the EWC is a franchise business and really has a mission of bringing their clients a “luxurious waxing experience that reveals a confident, radiant you!”. Jess was a waxer at the Plymouth location and also an esthetician and really wanted to branch out and go into the management end. After training, she now manages the WC location and oversees the training programs. The WC location has aspirations to introduce other services as well. EWC started out as a family owned business offering exceptional waxing with private waxing suites and a clean environment their priorities. They also require their staff to be professionally trained estheticians. They also are commended for putting their staff through hygiene safety and sanitation training along with committing to having the cleanest of equipment. The staff at WC EWC want you to feel good and confident about yourself. They want you to have a positive experience and feel comfortable while under their care. They offer many services including fully body for both men and women. EWC also specializes in waxing, brow waxing, facial hair waxing, along with brow tints. They also offer products that are designed to “enhance and extend your waxing service”. Their collection includes products that are “dermatologist-tested and formulated without parabens or mineral oil” including body polishes, body lotions, washes, exfoliating gels, and so much more. Packages are offered to first time guests including 50% off of specific services along with free eyebrows and underarms!! Summer is coming so be sure to visit Jess and her#eddiesentmeon&#ShopSmallr#shoplocall#supportsmallbusinesseswcs#wcshopsmallc#eatlocalr#wceatlocale#ekwcc#westchesterpa#eatlocal #wceatlocal #EKWC #westchesterpa ... EKWC is excited to let you know what we have been up to. One of our dear friends, Will, along with a few of his talented friends formed a band, The Shoeshiners. The Shoeshiners will be performing at 325 W. Miner Street at Porchfest 2023 starting at 4pm- and you don’t want to miss it!. I know- because we wanted to see first hand what we were in store for at Porchfest so we went to check out the Shoeshiners at the Bridgeport Ribhouse. WOW!! The smooth sounds of Will’s voice and his guitar are the perfect match for his members, Mark, blowing and drawing on his harmonica, Greg, strumming on his guitar with vocals of his own, and the talented Darilyn playing on her cajon, yes the cahone!! We enjoyed song after song, some familiar, some originals, but all a pleasure!! The Shoeshiners just formed recently over the last couple of years, with all the members meeting through their love of music! The ages of the members span the decades, but their commonality is that they love to play music. Will was on vacation with a few friends and while he was relaxing, he heard the sweet sounds of a harmonica playing through the house. He slowly tracked it down and Mark and Will decided to start playing together. They became just two guys messing around, making sounds together, pondering “wouldn’t it be cool if”.... Well they went to some Open Mic nights, making some visits to local venues, it all was starting to come together... kind of... They were missing something.... Enter Greg! They saw him perform solo and invited him to play with them and it clicked! The last piece of this musical puzzle is Darilyn, she creates the perfect compliment with her use of hands, palms, and fingertips on her cajon.
